An aneurysm is an abnormal ballooning, bulging or enlargement of a blood vessel. When this happens in the abdominal portion of the aorta (the largest blood vessel in the body) it is known as an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
This non-invasive procedure is performed using ultrasound. The ultrasound transducer creates digital pictures of the aorta and measures the size along the course of the vessel to identify an aneurysm.
